I thought I just had a bit of lint stuck in my seat belt… until it moved.
That tiny movement turned into a nightmare when I realized my car had been invaded by solifuges, also known as camel spiders, sun spiders, or wind scorpions. They aren’t venomous, but their speed, unsettling appearance, and painful bite are enough to make anyone uncomfortable.
The first one was wedged between the seat belt and the upholstery. Soon I spotted more: on the back seat, near the door hinge. They blended into the car so well I barely noticed them. Their bites can cause sharp pain, swelling, redness, and possible infection if not treated.
To keep them out, vacuum thoroughly, seal cracks, avoid parking in dry, brushy areas, and use natural repellents like peppermint or citrus oil. Keep food out of the car, as pests attract these predators.
This experience was a chilling reminder that nature doesn’t always announce itself… sometimes it slips in silently, waiting for its next ride.
